East Dart Postbridge SOLD - 24th June 2010
Historic Dartmoor hotel and village inn with 11 letting rooms
Situated in the attractive moorland hamlet of Postbridge, in the heart of Dartmoor is the famous and historic East Dart Hotel. Built in 1861 as a coaching inn, where travellers could take refreshments while the horses were changed, it then became a temperance house from 1880 to 1930 and no “evil drink” was sold. A full license was eventually granted in the 1930’s. The business has now been sold by licensed property specialists Stonesmith of Exeter on behalf of Mary Bastin. The new owners are Paul and Rosie Joynson who have moved to Devon from Jersey with their children Dominic and Sylvia.
Paul and Rosie love Dartmoor and the surrounding area and immediately knew that they wanted to set up home here. When they found The East Dart Hotel they fell in love with the property, its location and the friendly people.
Since moving in they have been overwhelmed by the positive response they have had from the locals. They are keen to expand and develop the style of catering whilst continuing with traditional, home cooked, pub food. They have already increased the opening hours and availability of food with snacks available from 2.30 to 6pm and the full menu up until 9pm. Along with this the bar is now open from 11am to 11pm daily in the summer months. They also intend to upgrade all of the letting rooms and to refurbish the trade areas of the property, when time allows.
The property is detached and provides a main bar with 60 covers, a resident’s lounge, restaurant/function room for 30, 11 en-suite letting rooms and a detached owners 3 bedroom cottage. Outside there are attractive trade gardens, customer car park, 2 stable blocks and a 2 ½ acre paddock.
The East Dart is a Duchy property and was sold as on a free of tie duchy lease off an asking price of £395,000 by Stonesmith
“ I am very grateful for all your efforts and patience in selling my business. Many thanks again. ”
